Hans Offringa(1956)
Publisher, author, internationally renowned media-expert and whisky-connaisseur; studied English and Business journalism. Having completed his professional graphical education and specialized in electronic media as early as the late 70`s, he is considered as one of the pioneers in this field in the Netherlands and the UK.
One of his first jobs at a large Dutch publishing company was to publish nations stock reports on teletext in 1978. A career change took him to a media-adviser company in 1982 where he was part of the team to introduce Viditel, the Dutch interactive videotex-system.
In 1988 Hans founded his own consulting company, focussing entirely on multimedia. In this role he advised many companies in the Netherlands and the UK. During this period he stayed active as a writer and published several studies, manuals and many articles about the use of multimedia.
In 1997 Hans founded Gopher Publishers, which is considered the first publishing-and-printing-on-demand company in the world. His first novel, The House, is also the first book to have been electronically published, printed and personalized on-demand.
With the famous Dutch pianist Jan Vayne in 1999, he developed Music-on-Demand as a medium for companies to express themselves via music.
With drawing artist Agnita Ratelband he publishes comical drawing books
In December 2001 Hans sold Gopher Publishers to the Quote Media Group, to fully concentrate on writing and media consulting.
With his American wife Becky he conducts whisky nosing & tasting sessions for restaurants and business clubs under the name The Whisky Couple. He has been writing and translating many books on this subject over the years (see under: publications). the Whisky Couple also has been working as translators/editors for the whisky industry at large.
